St. Edmunds Society provides temporary accommodation for males 16 and over and services for homeless young men in Norwich and Norfolk. St. Edmunds Society was founded in 1967 and opened its first hostel the following year at 68 Earlham Road.In 1991 we introduced a resettlement programme looking at issues around life skills training and independent living skills. In 1995 a need was identified for a drop in centre which for many years was just that- providing a safe warm place for anyone living on the streets to access. The opportunity for this drop in centre was afforded to us by back-to-back funding by the National Lottery. Subsequently Charitable trusts have enabled this to continue along with funding from Norwich City Council. We have now diversified following extensive research into education and training.

St Edmunds Society are currently involved in a re-provision of services supported by Norwich City Council, Norfolk County Council Supporting People and Broadland Housing Association. The need has been identified due to the current accommodation no longer being suitable for the current climate.

The Skills Development Project at Bull Close was opened in September 2008 by the RT. Hon Charles Clarke. On offer are a variety of courses incorporating transferable skills ranging from literacy and numeracy to construction.  It is hoped that the young people will benefit from these opportunities afforded to them as they rebuild their lives and resettle back into the community.

Our aims are
To provide stable and supportive accommodation for young homeless men who are aged 16 and over.

To help individuals develop skills for independent living.

To help residents find suitable and affordable accommodation and provide help setting up home.

To support ex-residents in the community once they have moved on.
